Following losses in their opening two matches, FNB Madibaz rugby coach David Maidza says the pressure is on when they play their third Varsity Cup game against Wits at Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Monday.
The Nelson Mandela University side were shaded 38-37 by Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein this week, leaving them at the bottom of the log, along with University of Pretoria.
Maidza said the big issue facing them now was how the squad responded to the challenge.
“We have to be honest with ourselves and ask what we have to do to win the next game,” he said.
“We have to pinpoint the specific areas we need to improve. I am confident we can turn it around if everyone is willing to work hard.”
He said they were a better team than the performances they had given so far and that it was time to “grind it out and make sure nobody loses focus”.
After calling for greater accuracy in their finishing following the opening loss to University of Cape Town, Maidza said they continued to make the wrong decisions.
“We did not execute properly and it’s all about our total accuracy during the whole game. We can ill afford to carry on like that.”
