South Africa’s most promising young sporting talent will be given a chance to shine, thanks to a range of scholarships and bursaries available through various universities, colleges and other academic institutions.
Whether you are a champion in your sporting code or a qualifying previously disadvantaged candidate, you could have the chance to get an education and perform at your best – both on the field and off.
If you believe you qualify for a scholarship or bursary on the basis of your sporting achievements and/or financial need, take a look at some of the options offered by the tertiary institutions listed.

National Film & Video Foundation
The National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF) has been awarding, on average, sixty bursaries per annum to qualifying students who are academic achievers and passionate about the film and television industry yet lack adequate financial resources to further their university studies.
The student must have already been selected at an institution that offers formal qualifications such as a diploma or degree; be able to demonstrate financial need; possess a good academic record; motivate in detail why they qualify to receive a bursary; submit a correctly completed application form and attach all required documents as per the application form; be a South African citizen or have permanent residency or have refugee status.

Investec
Investec, in partnership with Study Trust, awards young South Africans, with academic potential and in financial need, the chance to study towards financial sector related degrees at numerous local universities.
Investec is offering partial bursaries for the 2015 academic year to students who aim to study full time towards an undergraduate university degree in:
Commerce (Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Investments and Finance), BCom Informatics, BSc Computer Science, BSc Information Technology, BIT-Bachelors of Information Technology, BIS-Bachelor of Information Science, Business Science, Science and Mathematics, Engineering, and Commercial LLB.
Applications are open to all young SA citizens with academic potential who are in need of financial assistance and pupils holding or working towards a matric exemption with a minimum of 60% in English and Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and a 50% pass rate in all other subjects.

SABC Internships and Learnerships
A learnership is a learning programme that leads to an occupational or professional NQF qualification, with strong emphasis on workplace learning and experience.
The SABC offers learnerships in broadcast engineering, radio production, television operations and other media and broadcast related qualifications.
A learnership programme is mostly targeted at the unemployed, South African youth seeking qualifications to become employable.
The length of a learnership will differ but normally it will not be less than one year.
There is no cost involved when applying or registering to participate in a learnership.
