The University of Fort Hare was founded in the Eastern Cape in 1916 and was the academic home of political leaders like Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Govan Mbeki and Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
Established as an institute of higher learning for black Africans, its focus today is on the reshaping of post-apartheid South Africa.
The university has experienced nearly a century of academic excellence and has campuses in Alice, Bhisho and East London.
Its faculties include science and agriculture, social sciences and humanities, management and commerce, as well as the Nelson R Mandela School of Law.
The NRM Law School is a world class legal institution proudly possessing numerous alumni who now occupy leadership positions at the South African Bar and Bench.
The University of Fort Hare is also home to a high-tech Audio Visual Centre situated in East London and boasts top class pre- and post-multimedia production facilities.
