Since its inauguration in 1866 the University of Stellenbosch, situated in the scenic country-side of the Western Cape, has been offering courses in English and Afrikaans and has five campuses in Stellenbosch, Bellville and Saldanha.
The 28 000 student-rich institution provides education within the faculties of arts and social sciences; science; education; agri-science; law; theology; economic and management sciences; engineering; health; business; military sciences; and medicine.
The academic excellence establishment is a forerunner in a number of scholarly fields such as animal sciences, mathematical biosciences, wine biotechnology and biomedical tuberculosis research and management.
The University of Stellenbosch’s Tygerberg Campus is home to the institution’s faculty of medicine and health sciences and is affiliated with the Tygerberg Hospital.
The faculty of military sciences is the only one of its kind in South Africa and one of only two in Africa.
The institution lays claim to a variety of notable alumni including Casper de Vries, Naledi Pandor, Beyers Naudè, Riaan Cruywagen, Jo-Anne Strauss, Jan Smuts and CJ Langenhoven.
