Established in 1959, the University of the Western Cape is a 12 000 student-rich institution with more than 68 departments and over 16 institutes, schools and research centres.
Originally an ethnic college for coloured students, the University of the Western Cape and offers programmes across the faculties of arts, community and health sciences; dentistry; economic and management sciences; education; law; and natural sciences.
Among the sports facilities available are a fully equipped stadium; track and field facilities; racquet sports; cricket oval; rugby and soccer fields; netball courts; basketball courts; a volleyball court and an aquatics centre.
The institution’s Earth Sciences department boasts Applied Geology Lab facilities, Environmental and Water Science Lab facilities, a state of the art Highly Immersive Visualisation Environment and a GEONET Cast Facility.
