The Madibaz men’s football team crushed Vaal University of Technology 11-0 in Port Elizabeth today to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top two of their group in the University Sport South Africa football tournament.
After three matches, Madibaz had recorded a win, a draw and a loss and they desperately needed a big victory today to improve their goal difference.
Within minutes of the start, the Madibaz had the ball in the back of the net and from then on it was one-way traffic.
The VUT defence had no answer to the attacking skills of the home team conceded six more goals to trail 7-0 at the break.
VUT produced some better defence in the second half but never threatened their opponents’ goal and conceded four more goals.
The final outcome pleased coach Wayne Iveson who said they had been unable to convert a number of chances in their earlier games.
Madibaz drew their opening match against Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, but made amends when they won 2-0 against University of Fort Hare B in their second outing yesterday.
However, they suffered a setback when they went down 2-1 to Stellenbosch University this morning.
